Brentwood United Reformed Church - where God loves you

But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucifed.  He has been raised; he is not here.  Look, there is the place where they laid him.  Mark 16 v5

Colin Gunton

Colin Gunton was the Associate Minister at Brentwood United Reformed Church for many years until his death in 2003.

Colin was a friend, mentor, guide and leader to Brentwood United Reformed Church.  His contribution to Church life was great.  He was one of the foundation stones of the church.

His influence on our church is constant; a reminder to all the leaders and members of the importance of the Word and the Sacrament as key to our worship.

Colin was also a world class theologian; his influence to British theology was unmatched since Newman (although I am not sure he would like the comparison).  As webmaster and Author of this web site his gentle guidance drove the design.  As he said, a church web site must first be about God.

This site is very delicate to his memory.

There are theologians and then there are theologians like Colin Gunton. His work on the doctrine of the Trinity and doctrine of Creation have helped people understand and grasp their meaning and importance. Colin was one of a group of theologians who helped reestablish theology on a Trinitarian basis and do theology from Trinitarian perspective. In short, he took the doctrine of the trinity seriously.

Colin E. Gunton was Professor of Christian Doctrine at King's College London from 1984 until his sudden death in 2003.
